No More Resolution Let-Downs!

No More Resolution Let-Downs!

Every one of us has made new year’s resolutions at some point in our lives. Many of us have kept them but all too often, let’s face it, they’re left behind somewhere by February or March because we’re too busy and have lost the incentive to follow through.

But what’s really going on below the surface is that our subconscious mind is sabotaging our success. Whether we want to lose 10 pounds, earn more money, spend less, or meet the mate of our dreams, what we desire in our conscious minds means very little if our subconscious is running the show.

We get messages early on in our lives about important topics such as money, love, and sex for example. We’re taught by our parents and other influential adults how to navigate these areas of our life. We learn by example and what we see and hear sets up these beliefs at an early age. It ends up that no matter what we want on the outside as grown-ups, these often-limiting attitudes take over causing continual broken dreams and disappointments.

So, how can we stop this from happening once and for all? How can we finally keep our resolutions instead of hitting the wall yet again and feeling the ongoing sense of failure and frustration?

Get to the Bottom of it – For each resolution, make a list of the top 5 negative thoughts that come to mind. For example, if you’d like to earn and save more money, journal about your feelings on the topic such as “if I make additional income, I’ll have to work harder and never see my friends” or “if I budget, then I’ll constantly be stressed and anxious and not enjoy my life.” Whatever comes up, it is time to get it out and into the open for healing. Write down the contradictory feelings on each topic that are getting in the way.

Seek Help – Once you’ve uncovered your subconscious beliefs that are blocking your forward movement, seek an expert who can help. Find a therapist, hypnotist, healer, or coach who can help you move through these old, unhealthy patterns in order to let them go once and for all. Change is possible! Make this the year that you finally break free.

Make a Plan – If you set goals for the new year then you must also make a plan. Nothing will get accomplished if you just wish for it. It doesn’t need to be an overwhelming process but you must work backwards from your long-term goal or resolution, breaking it up into smaller and more achievable steps. Start with the outcome you’d like in one year and then create actions for the month, week, and each day in order to succeed.

Be Accountable – Make sure to check in regularly. How far are you coming along with your goals? Find somebody who you can be accountable to, perhaps an accountability partner who is also looking to keep their resolutions. Set up regular weekly or monthly meetings and do it as a team. If you’ve bitten off more than you can chew, go back and re-evaluate and perhaps set more attainable steps for you to take.

Celebrate Your Wins – Take time to celebrate your accomplishments! Too many times we sail through our successes without truly acknowledging and appreciating them. When we have big goals it’s easy to overlook the small wins along the way. Give thanks, soak in the gratitude, and be more present to enjoy even the smallest of victories.

Go From a Human Doing to a Human Being

Go From a Human Doing to a Human Being

This theme seemed especially important to me as we near the holidays. Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, it is a wonderful time of the year to slow down, enjoy the company of loved ones, and reflect on the year that has passed.

During this period, it’s a great opportunity to look at where we want to change and improve. One thing is certain, we are humans doing often more than we are humans being. Life is busy and I regularly hear my friends saying, “where has the year gone?” I can relate. It seems like yesterday that I celebrated Christmas 2016.

My parents used to tell me that time goes faster the older you get. And while that may be true, I feel that it is our pre-occupation with social media, technology, and staying connected that speeds it up even more and has caused us to miss out on some of life’s most beautiful experiences.

So, as we go into 2018, I am proposing that we do things a little differently. Here are just some of my thoughts about how we might gently go from a human doing to a human being.

Disconnect: Consider taking one day per week or a few hours each day unburdened by technology. Perhaps make Sunday your technology-free day where you disconnect and get completely present with life. Focus wholly on your friends and family or your tasks at hand without constant distractions from your cell phone, computer or television. Be present fully and completely.

Time Out: Carve out space every single day to go inward. Be silent, reflect, give thanks, read, pray, meditate, journal, practice yoga, or paint. Do something that causes you to pay attention to your intuition, spirit and creativity. Nothing is more important especially in this busy world.

Nature: Schedule excursions in nature. Connect with the earth in ways that you haven’t before. You will notice that time will stand still and you’ll feel refreshed and centered. If you’re in a warm climate, walk barefoot every day. The practice of daily grounding is not only good for your health but also your mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being.

Mission: Begin to ask the bigger questions like “what is my life’s mission and how can I serve?” Then start to request guidance and clues as to how you might begin living it. Mission, purpose, and service are closely aligned and those who create this deep meaning in their daily routine experience a more fulfilling and joyful life even in the face of challenges.

Basics: More and more, we need to get back to basics like community, comfort, and celebration. Create a relaxing home and office. Light candles, read a book by the fire, take a bath, curl up with a cozy blanket, and invite your best friend over for a glass of wine or afternoon tea.

We see the signs all around us. People are yearning for connection and simplicity. Many are feeling the ongoing pressures of living a busy life often leading to emotional and spiritual breakdowns as well as illness.

We are in a time when living a good and uncomplicated life is vital. One with meaning, purpose, presence, and love. There is no other way. It’s a new chapter to shift our awareness and align with what it truly means to be a human being.

Healthy Air Travel

Healthy Air Travel

Traveling by plane just isn’t as much fun as it used to be. The airports are packed, line-ups are long, and the whole experience is a bit tedious and nerve-wracking.

Add onto that the stress on the body from sitting in an enclosed metal compartment at high altitude for hours. During this time we are often exposed to germs and we experience a lack of fresh air, and poor circulation due to air pressure. All of this and we have the possibility for looming illness. In fact, it is not uncommon for those who fly to get a sinus infection, cold, or flu soon after their flight.

The good news is that there are ways to lessen the negative effects of flying on your health. Here is a list of things that you can do to prepare for your next flight and reduce your risk of getting sick:

  • Oil of Oregano – Make sure to bring a small bottle of Oil of Oregano in your carry on and take 3-5 drops under your tongue followed by water at least once or twice during your flight. Oregano is a powerful germ fighter and will boost your immunity and resistance during your air travel.
  • Get Some Zzz’s – Not everyone can sleep during a flight but getting some well-deserved nap time during your trip will help to boost immunity and will offset some of the stress of the events leading up to your flight. For longer and oversea flights, try a melatonin spray or supplement to induce a deeper sleep and to assist with jet lag.
  • Meditate – Flights are an awesome place to meditate. Use a headset, put on soothing music, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. You can also use this time to visualize some of your goals and dreams spending time “living as if” those events have already come to fruition. A positive mindset and relaxation has been proven to boost your immunity, lower stress levels, and bring an overall sense of wellbeing.
  • Drink Water – Another important way to rinse toxins and germs from your system is to drink a lot of water during your flight. Most people tend to get dehydrated during their travels so it’s important to drink extra liquid even when you don’t feel thirsty.
  • Vitamin C & Zinc – Don’t forget to bring along chewable or powdered vitamin C along with Zinc lozenges to suck during the flight. Fueling your body with high vitamin and mineral content can help your cells to fight off possible invasion by lurking bugs.
  • Take Regular Stretch Breaks – Even though the person next to you may not approve, it is a good idea to get out of your seat to stretch and move your legs frequently during a long flight. This helps you to avoid circulation issues and the potential for blood clots. Regular movement will also help you to feel more awake and alert once the flight is over.

7 Chakras – Are You Living in Love or Fear?

7 Chakras – Are You Living in Love or Fear?

In Eastern philosophies we hear a lot about the chakras, which are the 7 main energy points within our spiritual body. Today more than ever, we are learning that unless we create balance between our emotional, spiritual and physical life problems often occur.

The belief is that if we are releasing energy in love and faith through these spiritual points, we are living a balanced life that flows more effortlessly. If however, we release in fear or doubt, our Chakras can become stagnated leading way to physical symptoms within our body that are directly related to this blockage.

Whether or not you believe in such a theory, I know for fact that it’s true. In my wellness practice and as a Reiki Master, I often incorporate the Japanese-based Reiki energy work on my clients and have seen over and over again that there is a direct correlation between their physical pain and a chakra that is out of alignment.

Here is a list of the 7 Chakras and their corresponding area of the body along with their associated color.

Based on health challenges you may be experiencing this can lead to clues where your chakras may need a little dusting off and clearing. It is often as simple as placing hands onto these points and focusing energy into that specific area of your body. You can also book a Reiki healer or another hands-on healing technique.

First Chakra/ROOT/Color Red – This Chakra grounds us to the earth and often deals with how well we feel supported by life. Imbalances may include knee pain, prostate and rectum issues, sciatica, eating disorders, immune challenges, and foot and leg pain.

Second Chakra/SACRAL/Color Orange – This Chakra deals with our sexuality and creativity. Blockages may cause low back, hip and pelvic pain, kidney, reproductive and urinary problems.

Third Chakra/SOLAR PLEXUS/Color Yellow – This is the Chakra representing self-worth and self-esteem. When out of balance it may cause indigestion and issues with pancreas, liver and gallbladder, stomach ulcers, Diabetes and high blood pressure.

Fourth Chakra/HEART/Color Green – This energy point correlates with the freedom we have to both give and receive love. When stagnated, it can create imbalances in the heart area including palpitations and heart disease, lung issues such as asthma, shoulder and upper back issues, along with arm pain.

Fifth Chakra/THROAT/Color Blue – When we aren’t clearly speaking our truths, our throat Chakra can become blocked possibly leading to thyroid issues, ear infections, TMJ, sore throat, neck and shoulder pain.

Six Chakra/THIRD EYE/Color Indigo – This Chakra relates to our intuition and psychic vision. Imbalances may include headaches, hearing impairment, blurred vision, hormone issues, and sinus infections.

Seventh Chakra/CROWN/Color Violet – Our crown Chakra connects us to the spiritual and Universal energy. When disconnected or clogged we may become depressed and/or anxious and have an extreme sensitivity to environmental toxins, light and sound.

Often just making the conscious connection between your fearful and negative thoughts and emotions released from these specific areas of the body is all you need to begin bringing healing and balance.

I’d recommend researching specific meditations to open these Chakras along with healing minerals and stones that correlate with each energy point too. Also, focus on the specific colors that each Chakra represents during meditation, along with receiving some healing energy work. Lastly, find a local Kundalini yoga class in your neighborhood, which focuses on opening the Chakras through various poses, chants, and breath work.

Learn to focus more on living in love and joy rather than fear and doubt. Catch the nagging and negative feelings immediately and begin turning them around. Listen to your body and start noticing any tension that you may be holding in specific areas.

We can most definitely make the subtle, yet powerful shift towards more balance, enlightenment, improved health and happiness. We all deserve that!

Dust Off That Superhero Costume

Dust Off That Superhero Costume

We are all superheroes. I know it sounds silly and cliché but it’s true. Most of us just don’t realize it. Okay, so maybe we can’t fly, send laser beams with our eyes, or scale a wall, but we do have immense powers beyond our own belief.

In my book LIVE LOOK FEEL I talk about dusting off your superhero costume and taking charge of your own life. I discuss ways in which we can find more self-empowerment, confidence, and strength for the important journey ahead.

We ALL have special powers and gifts to offer the world but the problem is that many of us are tired. We are stressed out, overworked, and pre-occupied with the day-to-day routine and we have lost our way. Because of this, we have also lost the energy we need to move ahead and conquer life the way we had once intended.

Some of us may be very clear as to our life’s mission and we feel an undeniable drive to succeed, make an impact, and leave a legacy. Other people on the other hand, are just beginning to sense their deeper purpose in this lifetime.

Regardless of where you are, if you’re feeling that you have a larger life to live, know that this is intuition speaking to you. Know that this is the voice of truth.

If you lack direction or you are just burned out because of poor diet, lifestyle choices, and stress, try taking these steps to get you back on track, providing you with the kryptonite you need to become the superhero you were meant to be:

  • Detox – Often a diet high in processed foods, drugs, alcohol, and sugar can numb us. We lose sight of what it’s like to thrive. Doing a gentle body detox can help us remember what it’s like to feel great, lose junk food cravings, sleep deep, and remain energized throughout the day. Consider trying a short cleanse or detox to reset your body and metabolism similar to the 10-day transformation that I provide for my clients. Afterwards, bring in more organic produce, clean water, and superfoods and fuel your body the way nature intended.
  • Go Inward – If our minds are busy then we are sure to miss the synchronistic messages that the Universe is sending to us. By going inward, meditating, creating a quiet morning practice, journaling and reading uplifting material each day, we make room for miracles amidst the clutter. Put yourself first, make this practice a priority, and watch what happens.
  • Get Creative – When we were kids we’d pretend that we could fly, or do magical things. Our inner child and our creativity are closely related to each other. Do something that brings you joy such as playing an instrument, painting, walking barefoot in nature, singing karaoke, gardening, or playing a board game with friends. We are taking things way too seriously and we’re missing the boat. Life is meant to be fun and when we begin tapping in to our inner creativity and our childlike nature, we rediscover important aspects of ourselves and we become more balanced, happy, and unstoppable.

In the comic books and movies superheroes save the day and sometimes, the earth. Each of us has such a mission. We were born with unique talents, gifts, and inspirational ideas that can truly change the world. If we clean up our body, mind, and spirit, and get tuned in to why we are here, there will never be a more important assignment than that.

* Always consult with your physician before beginning any cleanse or detox program especially if you have pre-existing health conditions.
